CERAMICS / DRAWING
Push. Cut. Bend. Carve. Nudge. Rip. Snag. Drag. Press. Thump. Persuade. Punch. Cajole. The marks I make in my drawings and on my pottery come straight out of my relationship with the unbridled power and passion of the nature of my childhood in rural, northeastern North Carolina. Like magnolia leaves, cypress swamps, and kudzu vines, we each have our vulnerabilities. We find our balance by leaning toward and clinging to those we trust. I continue to maintain an unconditional respect for and honor the concept of the "handmade." My clay work and drawing is best characterized by a concept I call the "Reassurance of Repetition."
